Hike at North-South Lake State Park

09/16/2008 - 08:30

Tuesday, September 16 - Hike at North-South Lake State Park. We will leave Price Chopper parking lot at 8:30 a.m. It is about a 1 hr. 15-30 min. drive. Bring the usual lunch, water and, depending on the weather, a bathing suit and towel. Parking fee is $5 unless, as is the case with our crew, we have a 62 year old (or older) driver with valid driver's license. Such cars are free on week-days.

The hike will be north from the parking lot for about one and a half miles and include spectacular overlooks back at the lakes and into the Hudson River Valley. There are at least three approximately 50-foot rocky climbs. One source calls them "stiff". However, the rest of the walk is fairly level and at times the bedrock almost makes it seem paved. Overall, it is our favorite hike. Contact Gerri Scheele at 432-1215 or Lucille Wiggin at 432-1022
