Pine Lake Hike – April 2, 2019

Report by Bob Ciganek and Julie Smith - Finally. A crisp and sunny Spring Tuesday morning greeting 19 ADKers at the Pine Lake Environmental Center. From there we hiked through the heavily wooded trail hugging majestic Charlotte Creek. Not far from the creek and high in a well-branched sycamore resided an active nesting pair of Bald Eagles.

Gilbert Lake Hike - March 19, 2019

Report by Aleda Koehn - Aleda Koehn - It was a cool but sunny day as 17 hikers started out on the connector trail from the small parking lot at the north end of Gilbert Lake. From Fred's photo you might think it was a walk on a dry trail. Not at all!

Lower Riddell State Park - March 5, 2019

Report by Linda Pearce - After many recent outings had been canceled due to severe weather or icy conditions, we finally got a pleasant, sunny afternoon to hike the nearly 3 miles around the lower portion of Riddell State Park. The freshly fallen snow made it enjoyable for the three skiers while thirteen of us walked the trails through the woods and around the large field.

Fortin Park Ski/Hike - February 19, 2019

Report by Currie Marr - When an early morning radio host reported the wind-chill temperature to be -8, the trip leader put a cancellation notice on the website and later went to Fortin parking lot to see if anyone showed. Surprise! Fourteen hearty souls were there, eager to enjoy the outdoors and bright sun. The canceled trip now had revived.

Catskill Rail Trail (S. Kortright to Bloomville) – January 15, 2019

Report by Kathy Carey - On January 15, 2019, seventeen of us hiked on the Catskill Scenic Rail Trail, starting in South Kortright and hiking toward Bloomville. It was cloudy and cold, but we warmed up quickly once we started walking. The hike was a pleasant walk with good friends.

Gilbert Lake State Park – December 18, 2018

Report by Glenda Bolton - A week before the holiday and 11 ADKer's were given the magic of Christmas snow as an early present as we traversed the Red Pine Trail at Gilbert Lake State Park. A more beautiful, late fall day would not have been possible. A highlight was the call of a nearby raven, sounding much more like a dog than the poetic refrain "Nevermore." We also stopped to decorate and take photos at the Charlie Brown Tree. This hike represented the best of the holidays; being out in nature on a pristine day with great company!

Table Rocks & Strawberry Fields – December 4. 2018

Report by Aleda Koehn - On a cold and somewhat windy morning -but the first sunny day in weeks- 19 eager ADKers met to hike up to Table Rocks on Oyaron Hill above Hartwick College. Just about all of the snow seen on Saturday had gone after the Sunday rain and warm Monday, so walking was not a problem.

Susquehanna Greenway – November 20, 2018

Report by Bob Ciganek and Julia Smith - Our weekly ADK trek found eleven enthusiastic hikers armed with pruners and clippers prepared to attack much of the Susquehanna Greenway trail's unwanted greenery. The snow-covered base and trees made for a true winter wonderland. Lucille would be proud of our team effort. Photos by Julie Smith Click photo for enlargement.

Lower Riddell State Park - October 23, 2918

Report by Lucille Wiggin - The Thatcher St. Pk. hike planned for today had to be cancelled due to forecasts of rain. Two people who did go reported that it rained about noon just when we would have been eating our packed lunches. We will plan to do the hike in the spring or summer. Anyway, 12 determined hikers assembled at Riddell St. Pk. for a two mile hike and lunch at Pondo’s Restaurant.
