South Hill State Forest Hike – Tuesday, July 25, 2017

Report by Bob Ciganek and Julie Smith - Our ADK hike of 7/25/17 on a section of South Hill State Forest went most enjoyably. Despite a few threats of rain, all fifteen of us were surrounded by majestic trees and bird song. Efts, wild flowers and ferns accompanied us throughout the nearly three mile encounter with nature. Several of us enjoyed lunch at the Lunchbox Deli in Davenport.


Homer Folks State Forest – Tuesday, July 18, 2017

Report by James Austin - We hiked trails named Shakedown, R.I.P, Black Coffee, a white marked trail, and finished on Stinger. The hike was about 3 miles long. Audubon Sanctuary Hike – Tuesday, July 11, 2017

Report by Jack Ewen - Wow, a Tuesday with no rain after 5 AM! Humid and wet grass, but we bypassed the slippery boardwalks and the mud pits on the interior trails for a shorter defined hike. Then many split off to extend their Hike by walking the Grange Hall road and/or down Swart Hollow to their cars at the Ewen Farm.


Goodyear Lake Hike - Tuesday, June 27, 2017

Report by Linda Pearce - A light rain at hike time didn't discourage the 20 people that showed up for the Goodyear Lake hike. The rain stopped and it became a very pleasant morning. Seventeen walkers went on the 3-mile hike to Collier's Dam while 3 others walked on the lake roads.

Columbia Rail Trail Hike – Tuesday, May 23, 2017

Photographs by Fred Johnson - Monica and Irv Peters led this hike starting from the old Creamery in the Town of Columbia. The owner of the property, Ben Gottfried, gave some historical background of the former Lackawanna Railroad which was constructed in 1868 providing passenger and freight service to Utica until about 1988. Along the way a dead Mink and patches of Marsh-Marigolds were observed.
