Milford State Forest Hike – Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Report by Currie Marr Twenty-four ADKers parked cars near the DEC shed on Kelly’s Corner Road and walked 2.5 miles of the woodland-meadow paths of Milford State Forest. Participants were rewarded by sunny skies, tolerably warm temperatures, delightful bird songs, large patches of Joe Pye Weed in peak bloom, and frogs plopping into “Surprise Pond,” the pond that unexpectedly comes into view after crossing a wooden bridge. Instead of focusing on the weedy trails and biting Deer Flies, participants reveled in the adventure and the wildness of nature.  Photographs by Scott Fielder.
