Report by Currie Marr Under fine weather conditions 19 ADKers hiked at Gilbert Lake State Park. The hike began from the Large Shelter following the east-side trail around the Lake. A few participants continued the lake trail, but most hiked two hilly loops through the cabin area opposite the beach and then backtracked to the shelter – 2.67 miles. Along the way the voice of a Raven was thought to be heard, a small garter snake was spotted by Irv Peters, and distressingly, recent beaver damage was clearly evident. Lunch occurred outside the Large Shelter in the glorious warmth of bright sun and a windless day. Mesmerized by comfort, people were reluctant to leave this place of beauty.
