Report by Julia Smith – The hike on Tuesday, Aug. 2, was the Rail Trail in South Columbia. Twenty-four met at the 1930’s Creamery building for a very interesting talk by owner, Ben Gottfried, about the train track history. John Skinner, told us about his boyhood experiences taking milk from the farm to the train for transport. The day turned out beautiful for the 3 mile hike to Richfield Springs. Upon returning to the cars, many stayed for a tour of the train barn and a look at steam engine #99 and the colorful open cars. It was a most enjoyable day.
