Report by Aleda Koehn – On a cold and somewhat windy morning -but the first sunny day in weeks- 19 eager ADKers met to hike up to Table Rocks on Oyaron Hill above Hartwick College. Just about all of the snow seen on Saturday had gone after the Sunday rain and warm Monday, so walking was not a problem. An easy uphill brought us to several view spots overlooking Chestnut Street, Southwest Oneonta, and Otego. The rock layers on the top of the cliff are flat and open, hence the name “Table Rocks”. I was surprised to learn that several long -time Oneonta residents had never been there before. We continued through the woods, joining the ridge road to Strawberry Fields and then walked parallel to the field, protected from the wind by the trees. At the far end of the field we entered the woods for a short distance to the end of Hartwick property. Unfortunately, in several places we had to go around large puddles of water formed by compaction by vehicles. What used to be only a foot and ski trail years ago, was now marred. We returned to Strawberry Fields and walked along the east side of the field back to the parking lot. Everyone was glad to finally have had an opportunity to get out and have a good time.
