Fetterley Forest – July, 23, 2019

Report by Ruth Schaeffer – Our hike on Tues., July 23 was at Fetterley Forest, Richfield Springs. This is an Otsego Land Trust property above Canadarago Lake. There were 20 hikers ready to learn about ferns and local, native plants from Connie Tedesco, a botanist who identified ferns and wildflowers. We were hoping to identify 10 ferns and after the hike, we had found 13 species.
It was a beautiful summer hike, cool in the morning and then warming up and sunny. The overlook was just a beautiful spot to stop and relax. It was about a 2 mile hike. I might add that there were few mosquitoes or bugs.  Photos by Betsy O”Brien. Top row: Christmas fern, Connie Tedesco, Maidenhair Fern.
