Report by Diane Aaronson. Tuesday, September 21, 2021, the last day of summer according to the celestial calendar, was a beautiful day, perfect for hiking. Twenty-two hikers enjoyed the trails at Wilber Park, Oneonta. A few took the paved, level trails, and many others took the yellow, blue and red trails through the woods. There were a couple of new boardwalks over some wet sections, and evidence of logging near the north end of the blue trail. Numerous mushrooms and fungi were growing in the woods, and we couldn’t help but notice the bright red berries of the Jack-in-the-pulpit plant. Many fall wild flowers decorated a sunny, grassy section of the hike. When we got back to the paved section, we walked down through the lower section of the park, past the pool and tennis courts and back up to our starting point.
