September 28th, 2021 – Briar Creek Road

Report by Kathy Holmstrom.  September 28th’s ADK hike was on the Holmstrom property on Briar Creek Road in Otego. Eleven intrepid hikers met despite a steady, heavy rain. Two were new members to the organization. We hiked around fields and through woods. One member commented on how the damp conditions allowed the quietness of the woods to be appreciated. Not long after, we stopped to listen to a clattering sound in the pines. Although we didn’t see the instigator, we were pretty sure a red squirrel cutting pinecones for winter storage was responsible for the noise. The rain cleared out as the hike progressed and we enjoyed cider and doughnuts afterwards.
