Report by Diane Aaronson. Tuesday, May 31, 2022, thirteen hikers enjoyed the Sleeping Lion trail at Glimmerglass State Park, Cooperstown. We met at the parking area near the restrooms and picnic pavilion, and then headed up to the trailhead. What a beautiful morning! We saw lots of fresh green grass, wildflowers and saplings growing in the shade of the forest. It was very pleasant hiking in the shade as the temperature headed up towards 80ºF. The trail plus the walk from the parking area made for a 3-mile loop. Various apps reported ‘stairs climbed’ or elevation change of approximately 500’.
After the hike some of us stayed for a picnic lunch in the pavilion, where we observed an active robin’s nest. We saw some kayakers and swimmers in the lake, but we were content to enjoy the breeze off the lake.
