Report by Linda Pearce. With a fresh light snow on the ground, twenty-two hikers gathered at the Lower Riddell State Park. A group of seven, led by Ed Pixley, took the more level and shorter trail that basically goes around the fields where crops have been planted in season. Along the way they came upon a small flock of bluebirds, much to their surprise and delight. The rest of us took the trail up through the woods, past some of the old farm out-buildings, and over to the area along the Schenevus Creek. Last fall the DEC planted rows of seedlings of evergreen and deciduous trees in this area. We did enjoy the sunshine that made an occasional appearance. It was a great morning for a winter walk of 2.5 mi.
